Event Wrap Up by [Lexi Lutz](https://go.plainsight.ai/blog/author/llutz) 2 min read May 2, 2024 Tech experts and AI enthusiasts gathered last week at the \`What’s Your AI Story?\` event in Bellevue, WA, to explore the world of artificial intelligence. The event, put on by Plainsight, Averro, and SoftIron, focused on how AI is changing industries and the big questions that accompany it. With the theme "What's Your AI Story?" participants were encouraged to reflect on their personal and professional journeys with AI. Kit Merker, CEO of Plainsight, emphasized the need to balance the utility of AI with the very real business concerns around data privacy.  “If you've ever used a captcha to prove you're a human, you're helping to train AI. I think everybody has to have an AI story. If you're in business,” said Merker in his opening presentation.   Merker addressed the imperative of responsible AI adoption, cautioning against indiscriminate business data sharing with AI companies. He underscored the need for businesses to safeguard their data amidst the rapid proliferation of AI technologies, citing instances where major tech firms faced legal scrutiny over data privacy concerns. Despite AI's complexities and uncertainties, the event was optimistic and collaborative. Merker highlighted initiatives like WildfireWatch.org, illustrating how AI can be harnessed for the public good through collaborative, transparent efforts Amidst discussions on AI's transformative power, attendees were treated to insights from Chris Duxler, COO of Averro and an expert in the field. Chris's talk shed light on the pivotal role of data-driven decision-making and the profound impact of AI on various industries. Chris began by emphasizing the importance of data in AI applications, highlighting the volume required to train AI models effectively. He underscored AI's dual nature as both a source and a data generator, signaling a shift in how businesses approach data analysis and decision-making. “Analytics isn't going away,” he said. “In an AI world, it's actually going to flourish because the amount of available information will increase tenfold.” Duxler cited two primary data collection models: real-time actionable data and long-term analytics. Real-time data enables immediate interpretation and action, as demonstrated by Plainsight's AI vision system detecting objects and providing instant feedback. AI-driven analytics, he continued, offer long-term advantages across diverse sectors, including in the construction industry, where AI-powered systems monitor safety compliance and track equipment usage. By leveraging AI-generated insights, businesses can improve safety protocols, reduce risk, and negotiate lower insurance premiums. One standout story among the discussions at the event was from Jason Vander Schyff, CEO of SoftIron. He spoke about the application of AI in remote agricultural settings. Mitchell, a friend of Jason’s and a cattle farmer from the vast Australian outback, exemplified the challenges of integrating AI into his operations due to the absence of nearby cloud infrastructure. However, through solutions like installing AI-enabled cameras directly on his ranch, Mitchell showcased how AI can revolutionize livestock management, even in remote locations. The event wasn't just about dialogue; it offered practical learning experiences. Interactive AI demos and a QR code system for panel questions provided attendees with tangible insights to apply in their professional endeavors. As the summit concluded, participants departed with a renewed perspective and a commitment to shaping the AI landscape responsibly. The event catalyzed collective action, fostering a sense of responsibility and inclusivity in the AI community in Seattle and beyond. From remote ranches to urban tech hubs, the convergence of AI innovation and ethical considerations is shaping the future of industries worldwide. In his closing remarks, Chris likened AI to a power tool, propelling businesses forward with unprecedented capabilities. He urged attendees to embrace AI as an accelerating technology capable of revolutionizing industries and driving future growth.
